Rooted in Healing: My Story
Maureen Prosser, Founder of Wholistic Roots
I’m Maureen — a lifelong seeker of healing, balance, and meaning. The path that led me here is deeply personal, shaped by both challenges and hard-won breakthroughs.
My early childhood was filled with love, loss, and a lot of change. I didn’t fully grasp how deeply the early passing of my oldest brother affected me until much later. As a child, I carried the weight of unspoken grief and emotional undercurrents I couldn’t yet name. Frequent moves, chronic illness, and waves of depression and anxiety followed me into adulthood, often leaving me feeling disconnected from myself and my body.
Like many, my young adulthood became a search for identity, belonging, and relief. I often coped by numbing out — with food, alcohol, substances, distractions — anything to quiet the emotional noise. These patterns took their toll. I was frequently sick, battling depression, and caught in exhausting cycles of self-sabotage. On the surface, I appeared functional — I earned a degree in Psychology, held high-pressure jobs, and kept climbing the corporate ladder — but inside, I was burnt out and unwell. I thought I was holding it together, but I was slowly breaking down.
A health scare finally brought it all into focus. That moment became my turning point.
In 2016, I took a bold risk, and a huge leap of faith, and quit my tech job to pursue a certification as a Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Supporting clients on their healing journeys lit something up in me and also where I’d first learned of Ayurveda. I dove deep into gut health, fascinated by how profoundly it influences the mind and body. Later, I expanded my clinical experience working in a private naturopathic clinic, helping clients with a myriad of health concerns.
Pulled by something greater, I felt called to pursue Ayurveda — to expand my understanding and immerse myself in the ancient wisdom that had already begun to transform my life from within. So I followed my gut and took another leap, enrolling in two years of intensive study under world-renowned Dr. Vasant Lad at The Ayurvedic Institute, where I became a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayuryoga Instructor.
My approach blends ancient Ayurvedic wisdom with modern science, behavior change, and compassionate listening. I meet each client where they are and guide them toward sustainable, root-cause healing — physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Outside of my practice, I’m a lover of travel, books, yoga, strength training, live music and spending time with my friends and family. I’m endlessly curious, always seeking opportunities for growth, and devoted to living in alignment with my soul’s purpose.
My mission is simple: to help others live well, feel whole, and remember that true healing is possible — one step at a time.
